![]() The Home Opener was supposed to be held on Monday April 7, but due to a snow-out (Jebus, why the fuck do we play baseball in the northeast in the first month of the year?), my father, my best friend Tyler, and I took a trip down the next morning. In ’03, the Yanks started on the road, with three game sets in both Toronto and Tampa Bay. “The Boss” made one major move of the offseason, bringing in Japanese superstar Hideki Matsui. Still in the tail end of the dynasty years, and despite the 103-win regular season, this was viewed as an unacceptable result to both George Steinbrenner and the Yankees faithful. The 2003 Yankees were coming off of an AL East Championship, and an unceremonious ouster at the hands of the eventual World Series Champion Anaheim Angels in the AL Division Series. I’ve seen my fair share of Opening Days at both big stadiums in the Bronx, but let me take you back to probably my favorite one to date (cue the Saved by the Bell fantasy screen)… While we didn’t land any of the BIG names, we made several key moves, including James Paxton, Tulo, and DJ LeMahieu, and I’m ready for an abundance of Sevy sliders and Stanton-ian blasts. Now, as a diehard Yankees fan (read: educated baseball fan), I have a heightened level of optimism coming into this season. ![]() ![]() It’s April 1…we’re in the middle of March Madness, NBA & NHL regular seasons are winding down, Wrestlemania is around the corner, and best of all, TODAY IS OPENING DAY. (I will always post this every Opening Day) ![]()
